What I'm Reading...

A slightly different post compared to what I normally ramble on about. I love a good book, I will be honest I haven’t always been a reader, when I was younger I always had audio books because I found reading to be hard. Fast forward to being 22, I read every night before I sleep as it really helps me switch off and indeed sleep better. I want to share what I am reading/about to read. I will not give anything away on the plots because maybe you will go and pick a copy of one of these books up upon my recommendation, who knows!! So lets get into it;

Moriarty | Anthony Horowitz

As you might be able to tell this is a book that focuses on themes of Sherlock Holmes. However he is not present in this book, set in the late 19th century this is very similar to stories you would be familiar with. This novel follows Inspector Athelny Jones of Scotland Yard and Pinkerton agent Frederick Chase as they try to real in american criminal Clarence Devereux. This book was recommended to me by my Mum and I really enjoyed it, it has some great plot twists that will stop you in your tracks…

Lolita | Vladimir Nabokov

A lot of titles become classics for many reasons, I had heard of Lolita as it is used for many references for fashion stories. The novel is notable for its controversial subject. From what I already knew about the book it is controversial due to the main protagonist and narrator of the story Humbert, who has an obsession with 12 year old Dolores who is known as Lolita, after a series of odd events becomes her stepfather and fulfils his fantasies of sexual relations with his step daughter. It is unnerving how Humbert appears to be charming and sometimes relatable. A very well written classic that is worth reading, it is so hard to describe the feeling of being on the side of a sexual predator... Also I want to thank my beautiful friend Laura for lending me this beautiful copy, its lovey that we can share our passions 💋.

The Revolving Door of Life | Alexander McCall Smith

This is the 10th book in the 44 Scotland Street series. This series was reccomened to me by my Form Tutor way back in 2009. I had read one other series by McCall Smith (The Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency) and had enjoyed that so gave this series a go. I will say here that this is not a book for those who are craving twists and turns and drama. It features a group of characters who live in and around the fictional Scotland Street in Edinburgh, we live their happiness, their development and sometimes their misery. I love to drop back in with this series every year or so. It is a very comforting series to get into, and juts like the others this is a comfortable chapter in the characters lives.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child | J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany

I do not need to explain the premise of this book as I am sure you will be well abreast of it all. I have grown up with Harry Potter and so of course I wanted to know what happened next. This was a gift for my birthday and I was so excited to get into this book. I admit I read it very quickly, in 3 sittings over 2 days. I am not leavening any thoughts here as I don’t want to sway people either way. Certainly Harry Potter means a lot to me so I wouldn’t want it ruined for me or anyone else. It does however remain a must read.
