Should I give Up?

I’ve been considering giving up.

As a trans+ intersex activist, who has spent the last god knows how many years trying to uplift the lives of the community, you could say that I have been on the front line of the hostility that the community faces.

The last 18 months has been unbearable. The current pride season is like no other that I have experienced in my career. The constant bombardment of the reform party, the EHRC, hit pieces in the spectator, you name it trans+ people are never off these people’s lips. It has severely impacted me, and my ability to help.

I sat in tears in a recent therapy session and said I felt like a firefighter who has let the fire station burn down.

It has felt like drowning.

Why bother?

It has taken time, but I know this is what the far right, the anti-trans idealists, the bigots want. They want to wear us down, watch us infighting, until we run out of energy, and stop fighting.

We cannot let this happen.
Giving up is not an option.

We cannot let them drown us.

However, this is not the burden of only trans+ people.

The most threatened are the ones who fought for LGB rights - never seeing equality for the T+ - so this is a community endeavour.

I am an expert at what I do - but when I can’t - I need to know that there are people lining up to take over. Trans+ people alone will not solve this, this needs to be a united front!
