Gucci on the Brain

March 30, 2018

Darling, thank you so much for stopping by today. Today I am bringing you another instalment of my Sartorial Inspirations. I am going to talk fashion and more importantly one of the biggest influences on what we wear right now- GUCCI.

Unless you have been living under a rock, it has been hard to ignore the influence that Gucci and it’s creative director Alessandro Michele have had since the resurgence of the mega brand back in 2015. For the house, that has set so many trends, this was a happy reacquaintance.

Shaped and pushed by Tom Ford from 1990 to 2004, growing the house into a mega brand and into the Gucci Group who at the time bought and oversaw brands such as Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. Gucci was left comfortably slumbering under Frida Giannini from 2005 to 2014 who worked with the brand’s core values but never rocked the boat.

Enter Alessandro Michele, former Leather Goods Design Director and Associate, who was hired by Ford from Fendi in 2002, took over the brand and began to lay out his creative direction. No one could have seen the way in which Michele would take Gucci, but pretty soon the whole world was in love with Gucci. We have seen the rise of the extrovert antique more is more style, bold patterns, colours and amazing accessories that have been a commercial success.

Now unless you are an A-List celeb or Chinese Billionaire it is hard to dress head to toe in Gucci. However, Gucci’s popularity has meant that the high street and other designers have taken their creative lead from the commercial and artistic success of Michele’s Gucci. That is where I come in, Zara is a brand that is more than influenced by successful high fashion brands and this season is no exception. When I saw The cardigan I am showcasing today on zara.com - I immediately snapped it up. It blends a few of Gucci’s signatures of late, pearl detailing and dual colour webbing, in an easy to wear SS18 piece.

I think that Zara plays the game well, and is toeing the line just on the right side of acceptability. They reference the designs of Michele without copying directly and gives the wearer a great feeling of high fashion at affordable high street prices. I love nothing better than finding a piece inspired by the brand I love so much at a cost that I can swallow.

So if you have got Gucci on the brain just like me, then look no further than the humble high-street. Thank you so much for joining me today, I will see you all soon.
