Cut yourself some slack

I don’t know about you, but I’ve focused my mind on my impact - climate-wise - that is. For the last few years, I have taken my impact seriously.
There is an impetus and an urgency. The climate needs us all to be conscious of the situation and how our consumption, choices, and habits can affect the precarious balance we’re in.

That being said, it means making decisions that sometimes feel tricky. On the flip side when I evaluate my choices and see glaring gaps/issues (no one is perfect) it is so easy to feel incredibly frustrated and guilty.
I am sure I am not the only person that feels this way.

But, there are seriously rich people making terrible decisions- and feeling zero guilt about it. I saw a TikTok, one of my faves ‘Day in the life of a personal assistant in NYC’. A PA who runs errands for her boss and takes us along with her. Back to the video - her boss didn’t want to bring her suitcase back on a flight, so she arranged for it to be shipped back for her.

The laziness of not carrying a suitcase, and the ripple effects of impact are huge. Think about the extra emissions, and increases the impact of the emissions of the travel. It’s ridiculous, and so so so entitled.
So when I use a single-use cup, perhaps I don’t need to beat myself up, when people that have more money than sense are doing crap like lazily choosing to ship a suitcase rather than carry it.
When it comes to climate change - it is the rich that are the problem - cut yourself some slack and engage with the issue and continue to be conscious of the positive impact we can have!
