Last Friday I was lucky enough to be trotting my way to the launch party of Hunky Dory. I met the lovely Cat and we set off towards the venue. Located in Tower Hill’s Vout-O-Reenee’s, which was such a beautiful location with real vintage vibes, and plenty of places for some amazing pictures. However, we were there for the launch of Maisey Brown’s 70s themed magazine Hunky Dory. We were met at the door by Jamie, Natalie and Whitney. Entering the space we were greeted by the soulful sounds Bowie, Chic, Donna Summer and Fleetwood Mac.
Hunky Dory was Maisey’s final major project from her Fashion Journalism degree but is so finalised and professional that you would be forgiven for forgetting that. In the first issue, there are interviews with the creator of Biba, Barbara Hulanicki, the former Fashion Editor of Nova and painter Molly Parkin. Giving you a taste of the 70s in 2018.
The magazine draws its title from David Bowie’s 1971 album, Maisey’s love and passion for her subject is clear through every page, stating that Hunky Dory is ‘where the past and the present collide. It explores and celebrates a new generation’s nostalgic yearnings through a contemporary lens’ and it is just that, with shoots that celebrates and emulates the 70’s but still feels very fresh and modern.
The magazine will be available to purchase online soon and Maisey is looking for nostalgia obsessed creatives, lovers of vintage clothing and brands or musicians who are influenced by past eras to collaborate with to feature in the second issue of Hunky Dory.
