As an angsty teen, I always used to wear humorous t-shirts, but as I discovered myself and my trans identity, they suddenly no longer felt like me, so I moved away from fun t-shirts.

So I cut t-shirts out of my clothing diet - and swore them off. Leaving a huge gap in my wardrobe and style choices.

Recently - and it’s not even that interesting- I’ve been looking at how I dress and realised that I owned no more than three T-shirts and they were so tired that they didn’t work in my wardrobe. As a consequence, I was hitting a sartorial wall.

If you feel an urge to try something, then you should go for it. I am aware that a bold decision for me, something as innocuous as a t-shirt, might not be bold for you,  but we all have hurdles we have to work through!

I’ve dipped my toes back into humorous t-shirts. Reminding myself that T-shirts are not a signifier of gender - they are and have always been just fabric - which I’ve said professionally for nearly a decade?!

Clothing should only ever be about comfort and joy - there are no limits - only the ones we set ourselves. I’m learning not to limit myself when it comes to my clothing choices.

So I’m reminding myself, and maybe you, that clothes are just fabric and that they don’t have gender. Whatever we choose to put on our bodies, it is always neutral.
