5 Ways to get more pleasure out of life

Oh hello darling, and welcome back to pleasure month. Throughout August we have focused on embracing personal pleasure to make life better, dressing for pleasure and things we can do to make the world a better place.

Today I want to look at the day to day, and how we can go about making our everyday life that bit more pleasurable. So buckle your seatbelts for 5 Ways to get more pleasure out of life.

1. Work out what actually brings you pleasure

This may sound really obvious, but there is no way you can bring more pleasure into your life if you don't know what actually does it for you. Think big and small, so we are talking about the things that get your pulse up, as well as the small things that make you smile. Keeping track of your personal pleasure assets will make them easier to incorporate into your life.

2. Minimise the impact of things that drain pleasure

Just like working out the things that bring you pleasure makes them easier to add to our lives, knowing what drains our pleasure makes it easier to avoid that deflated feeling. But how can we do this? Well, as with so many things in life, simply observe your routine. When you notice your mood dipping into the negative, write down what happened, and the cause.

If prolonged scrolling on Instagram leaves you feeling like a stale slice of cake, back to back meetings make you feel worse than Eeyore, then work with your schedule to ensure these things have less chance of affecting your mood.

3. Pour joy into everyday tasks

I would love it if my daily life was a one-way ticket to pleasure land, but sadly this is not the case. We all have things that need our attention. Life admin can really drain the fun out of a day, but if you add some of the smaller pleasure assets into those tasks, suddenly they seem a little bit brighter.

If music is your thing, make your Monday morning emails a disco! Or have a binge of your favourite show whilst you tackle the ironing. Small things can make the biggest difference.

4. Chart your achievements

Feeling successful brings so much pleasure, but we all have days where success can feel like an elusive beast. Success is a feeling that can be manifested by productivity. The best way to be productive is to be motivated. I get asked all the time ‘how do I boost my motivation?’ well the best way I know is to look back at what you have already achieved.

List your achievements, things that make you proud, in a place you can see with ease. A list on your phone or in your notebook is the perfect place for this. So when you feel lost in your work, you can go to this list for a boost of self-worth!

5. Take a day out of your schedule

I've saved the best until last, and this is the best way to pleasure. Take a day off, so many people complain about being busy, myself included. However, with some planning and flexibility, we can all find days just for us. Fill those days with as much or as little as you want to do, let your pleasure centre expand and refuel itself. Taking time for yourself in this way is so healthy, and we all need it!

Thank you for joining me for Pleasure month, as always I hope it helped you! I will see you soon, until then uh buh bye…
