Celebrate the Small Wins

I think we can all agree that life is hard.
The rise in the cost of living.
Reduced disposable income.
Political & regulatory uncertainty.
AI slop creating a slump in the job market.
Economic inequality.
Rising challenges of climate change.
It is all creating a sense of instability that we all have to bear.

Sadly, I don’t have a magic wand that I can wave to make this all go away.
What I do have is my brain, and it tells me to think. A lot of my work focuses on the trans+ & intersex communities. The very fabric of our reality is being pulled apart by warring politicians, failing parties, and gammons with keyboard-based in-corrective dysfunction. Living in the present can be hard when we’re bombarded with nothing but doom and gloom.
The feeling of giving up is rife.
We can’t just give up. We have to live, and to do so in spite of the mess is an act of resistance. So how do we live? Well, I always suggest that we celebrate the small wins, focus on the moments of brilliance right in front of us. It doesn’t stop the fact that life is hard, but it can make the present moment more bearable.

I was given an Orchid for my birthday, and at the time of writing, it is still alive and thriving. Something I have never achieved before.
Does my orchid's success change my life? No.
Does my orchid's success make the world a better place? No.
However,
Does the orchid make me smile every time I see it? Yes.
Does my success make me proud, boosting my confidence? Yes

Small wins, a moment of brilliance, an Orchid fighting off death, whatever it is, focusing on them can make today better. It’s not groundbreaking, but it can clear the clouds and let some much-needed sun in.
So what small wins are you celebrating today?
