Do we even need pride?

A question I’ve been asked yearly. Every year prior to 2024 I strongly rebuked the question, alerted people to what was at stake, what could happen. Fast forward to 2026, and it has happened, it’s no longer a what if, we’re deep in it.

- Trans people are facing a global role back of their limited rights.

- Our bodies are being policed.

- Public expressions of drag is illegal in many US states.

- Hate crimes are at an all time high.

- There is a genuine and very visible amount of politics and politicians that are extremely far right.

- Trans people currently sit in a trajectory that firmly places us in the sphere of genocide.

Is this 2026 or 1936? It can be very hard to tell them apart.

So do we even need pride?

More than we ever have before, the threat is no longer the elephant in the room, it’s the elephant pressing down on us. We have never needed pride more than we do today!
