The festive season is well and truly upon us.
The angst of the season is also hovering above. The feeling that we somehow need to do more, to make it more special, to go out of our way to impress. The urge to become a veritable Martha Stewart for one day sits heavily in my mind.
That tug of ‘I haven’t done enough’ descends each year without fail. I am sure I am not the only one experiencing these emotions at this time of year. Statistics show that feelings of overwhelm, stress, and exhaustion all increase during this period.
You don’t need me to remind you of the unprecedented times we are surviving. This time of year doesn’t need our stress. The festivities will be there whether we exhaust ourselves or not.
Amongst the detritus of a rocky 2024 and the anguish of the things we all wish were different, there is a small nugget of light shining through.
That light is you. You are the gift.
I'm dressed like a gift to remind you that we are all enough. Give yourself the grace to show up as you are. Enjoy this time of year the way you want to. No one is perfect even Martha Stewart is fallible. Why expend effort after a ‘perfect’ that doesn’t exist?
Your presence at the festivities is more than enough. You don’t need to gild the lily, run yourself ragged, please everyone, and you don’t need to add more stress into your life.
Your presence is the present the people in your life need and want.
Please offer yourself kindness, and remind yourself, that you are the gift.
