Oh hello darling and welcome to the first post of NOVEMBER, at this point I am in awe at how quickly 2019 has gone. I have truly been quite busy, and so each month has whizzed past me in a succession of days and weeks.
As is my penchant, a new month means a brand new theme, which I will attempt to loosely connect all the thoughts that are swirling around my head. So without further ado, welcome dear reader to COMFORT MONTH.
In reality Comfort month came about because I have a lot of knitwear and coats that I want to shoot, and to me these things mean comfort to me! The warm embrace of all these garments will lend themselves to a veritable feast for the eyes, word pieces that will look at what comfort means, what we do to make our selves comfortable, and the idea of mass comfort in shared references.
I have discussed prior what knitwear and coats mean to me, but I think upon reflection I need to break it down even further. When I bring you defined content, I always think that a good place to start is understanding what the term means.
As a Noun The oxford dictionary states that comfort is;
a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint.
the easing or alleviation of a person's feelings of grief or distress.
So comfort means an existence free from problems or at the very least an existence where our issues are alleviated. To me when my life day to day feels very stressful getting dressed with layers really helps me feel supported.
There are two ways that layers, namely knitwear and coats, bring me comfort. Firstly, the weight of the fabric has a solid presence that brings me a sense of physical comfort similar to the way weighted blankets and heavy duvets make us feel safe.
The second is the way layers feel like they are protecting me from the elements. In a sense the layers of my winter wardrobe offer me a barrier of protection from prying eyes, assertive opinions and the environment I am in. I always feel more comfortable when I have more clothes on. Dressing for this time of year is far easier than Summer.
Knowing I can leave the house with 3 maybe four layers on is a feeling that I cannot really describe any other way than comfortable. Having an arsenal of coats, cardigans and jumpers also helps, and this part of my wardrobe far overshadows any other section.
Talking of my wardrobe, I love love love love love this silly cardigan from Lazy Oaf and Mr Men. The minute I saw it I knew I had to have it, and while it may have been a little pricey, nothing has made me smile quite like it for a while. Paired with this classic jeans and tee combo, I have the perfect Autumn day outfit. It is all topped off my new Kickers, I really feel like I could present kids TV dressed like this.
Please don’t get any ideas, I hate kids, I cannot think of anything worse. Nothing could make me fell any more uncomfortable. So I am very happy with my layers, and will be for the next 6 months or so. Long live comfort month!
I will see you next week when we will be discussing the impact our schedules have on our levels of comfort!
