How to Nail Inter-Seasonal Dressing

Is it hot? Is it cold? I have absolutely no idea whatsoever …

Okay so this is a tricky time, seasonally we are FIRMLY into AW18/19, yet it could be 25°C this afternoon- so when it comes to ACTUALLY picking looks, it can be quite tricky. I thought I would put fingers to keys and type a few ideas I have to make this time a little easier, and to stop browsing for all the COATS.

Autumn colours in lighter fabrics

Okay, so the shops are AWASH with the colours of the season, russet browns, rich purples, mustards and of course RED. One way to get into that right now is to find pieces in lighter fabrics, don’t buy the wool pieces just yet, think satin, cotton and silks - believe me, they are OUT THERE. That way you can step into the next season, but if for some reason it is 25°C on the way home, you won’t melt into a sweaty damp pile of fabric.

Layering

Absolutely not my original idea, and I’m sure you know how to do this, but humour me. Layering makes a piece that you ADORED in the height of this long hot summer, a piece you can now choose confidently in autumn. I know this because for Autumn I have added a simple tee to this jumpsuit, yet I can tell you that in the height of summer this was the WRONG thing to do. Put simply this was very much BOIL IN THE BAG- but will be great for crisp mornings in October.

Summer accessories for autumn pieces

Okay, so the basket bag is firmly a summer item. However, if you want to dip your toe into autumn pieces, then a more summer focused accessory can soften that blow and thus becomes a great way to nail inter-seasonal dressing. I have written this, firstly because it is a great thing to do, but secondly, because I got this basket bag late in the Zara sale for 700 British PENCE, £7 - and I WANT TO CARRY IT FOREVER.

Change a shoe

Another one that really is common sense, but I like a fuller post because you know, it looks like I tried. A really easy way to take things from one season to the next and especially in this tricky inter season part; is to swap out that summer sandal, and replace it with a more autumn-y piece- think perhaps a trainer, or (now I am going to have whisper this) a boot. A simple and easy way to help you bridge the gap.

DO WHAT YOU WANT

Finally, my last piece of advice is to dress how YOU want. Let's face it, comfort and style don’t always go hand in hand, but we can always do our best. If you are too warm; wear something summery - see me serving you cowgirl meets challenge Anika vibes in a summery jumpsuit for just that reason. Or if you are chilly PUT A COAT ON, in the end as long as you are happy, you can nail inter-seasonal dressing.
